I first got familiar with Mashonda when she was a R&B artist on J Records. I was doing some street promo for the label in the early 2000′s. Later on I found out she was married too producer Swizz Beats. I always thought her music was fresh, even though her album was never officially released.
Well… It looks like she’s back, this time gracing the new cover of King Magazine. This new issue hits newsstands on March 29th, 2011.
ATL’s own Amdex and D.T. better known as Clan Destined sit down with The New Content, to talk about thier new album “Self Titled.”
These brothers are extremely talented, their both Super Emcees, DJ’s, and Producers. I’ve known these cats since I was a teenager and super proud of their growth, and creative talents. Get Familiar with Clan D!
Before he began focusing his interest into doing feature length films, Spike Jonze was a dope video music director for not only rock bands but he also was the mind behind the Pharcyde’s classic ‘Drop’ video. Spotted at Jayforce.com
The year was 1995 and classic Hip Hop records were coming left and right. The west coast was flexing it’s muscle HEAVY with releases from Snoop Doggy Dogg, Warren G, Dr. Dre, The Dogg Pound, Too Short, Dru Down, E-40, Mack 10, etc. While most people who lived outside of Cali stereotyped the music from the region, there was another crop of lyricists repping Cali who were starting to rise in the ranks. Emcees such as Ras Kass, Saafir, Xzibit, Del The Funky Homosapian, Souls Of Mischief, Casual, and another group by the name of Pharcyde. While the Pharcyde’s first album (BizarreRide2Pharcyde) was JUST really starting to get burn in my walkman, they came out of nowhere with what would be one of the most creative Hip Hop music videos I have ever seen!
The song was called “Drop” and it was produced by Jay Dee who would later go on to be known as the legendary J Dilla. (R.I.P.) The first time I saw this video, I don’t think I really got what was going on until the scene with the water. After watching the “Drop” video I came home quick the next day to see if I could catch it on Rap City again (Note: In 1995 the only way to really see Hip Hop videos was Rap City or Public Access shows like Video Music Box in NYC or American Music Makers in ATL). I was amazed by the creativity of this video, and also shocked to hear such as different sound coming from California. I purchased the “Labcabincalifornia” LP as soon as it came out, and I still have it on cassette to this day. The second single from that album would be “Running” which also went on to become a classic. It was also produced by none other than J Dilla.
I ALWAYS wondered how they made this video. So imagine my excitement when I see posted online “Behind The Scenes: Making Of The Drop Video.” I checked it out ASAP and I had to share this story with you all.

Here’s some bonus footage, QD3 catches up with Fatlip formerly of the Pharcyde to talk about the making the video. I would of loved to hear Fatlip explain why he has no verse on this song.
This past Thursday night I was invited out to check out Boog Brown’s new video for U.P.S. from her new album “Brown Study.” Now I get to share it with all of you. If you’ve been sleeping on Boog Brown it’s Wake Up Time!!!
