We told you about it a long time ago, and it’s finally here.
A Raisin In The Sun comes on Tonight on ABC at 8pm
Not too sound preachy, but we always try to school those cats who may be not know the importance of why it was necessary to make this a post. First things first, a lil background.
A Raisin In The Sun is a play by Lorriane Hansberry from waaay back in the day, it debuted on Broadway in 1959. The story is based upon a family’s own experiences growing up in Chicago. A Raisin In The Sun was the first play written by a Black woman to be produced on Broadway, as well as the first play with a Black director (Lloyd Richards) on Broadway. The title comes from the opening lines of “Harlem”, a poem written by Langston Hughes (“What happens to a dream deferred? / Does it dry up / like a raisin in the sun?”) Throughout the play, the idea of deferred dreams is a prominent theme, as each member of the Younger family attempts to find his or her place amidst a number of difficult situations. How about that for a lil Black History Trivia!
The TV movie stars Phylicia Rashad, Audra McDonald, Sanaa Lathan, and Sean Combs (Puff Daddy, Diddy, P Diddy, whatever)
I think its great it airs tonight on ABC not on TV One, not on BET or a so called Black Network that they try to put all the Black movies on! It also has a treasured slot of prime time real estate— coming on the day after the Oscars.
Puff is also the Executive Producer of this thing. Shouts to him for putting his money up for a piece of video we actually want to see (we cool on Making the Band part 12).
