Mixtape Mondays: J-Live “The Live Identity”

j-liveIDENTITY_mixtape.jpg

The Live Identity is the first installment of “The Live Trilogy”. The mixtape is a collection of J-Live songs, old, new, rare, hot and classic. The tracks range from the first singles of the mid 90s to the new single for the upcoming album S.P.T.A. (Said Person Of that Ability). S.P.T.A. hits the web and stores everywhere 9/27/11. Like the album and the Undivided Attention EP before it, The Live Identity features the hip hop triple threat as a three man group (Emcee/DJ/Producer). This is an all J-Live compilation, mixed by DJ J-Live and hosted by J-Live.

Download: DJ Mick Boogie – Prelude To The Throne (Mixtape)

As everybody knows the highly anticipated collaboration album between Jay Z & Kanye West “Watch The Throne” drops tomorrow finally via iTunes before the physical copies hit Best Buy’s nationwide on Friday. After the listening party last monday at New York’s Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History the net was going crazy with rave reviews. Yeezy and Jay have pulled off the impossible by also not letting this album leak to the masses before it’s proper date. Something I can’t say I’ve seen in the past 10 years. I guess we’ll all have to wait till tomorrow to “Watch The Throne”

In the meantime… check out this mixtape DJ Mick Boogie put together “Prelude To The Throne”

No, it’s not mixed, so delete whatever you don’t like. Yes, it’s a good listen, so enjoy it. I’m looking forward to their forthcoming “Watch The Throne” project.

Mixtape Mondays: Quality Control & Unique Squared Present The Official SXSW Mixtape

Quality-Control-and-Unique-Squared-Mixtape.jpg

Shouts to the good people over at Unique Squared. Soul Wallace, AJ, Presyce, Tom and the rest of the gang.

During this year’s SXSW Festival leading pro audio company Unique Squared, in partnership with Quality Control Marketing, parked a massive tour bus on Austin’s streets to serve as a state of the art recording studio. Throughout the festivities some of hip-hop’s most notable emcees stopped by the Mobile Studio to record exclusive songs over all-original production. The result is The Official SXSW Mixtape, a 30 track collection that captures the energy and creativity of SXSW.

The Official SXSW Mixtape is presented by Unique Squared, Quality Control, 2DopeBoyz and DJBooth.net. Acclaimed industry engineer Fokis handled the mixing and engineering duties while tracks were blended and arranged by DJ Presyce (three time Scribble Jam DJ Battle Champion). Featured artists include Tanya Morgan, Skyzoo, Khaleel, Nick Javas, J-Live and more. Contributing producers include Seattle’s heavyweight beatsmith Jake One, Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan), Crazy DJ Bazarro (of the Beatminerz) in addition to noteworthy up-and-comers Apollo Brown, IMakeMadBeats, Dynamite Brothers, D.R.U.G.S. and female producer Kels of TN2 Productions.

To witness artists selecting beats, writing and recording in such a short period of time was extraordinary and a testament to Unique Squared’s ability to create a unique and creative environment. It’d be an understatement to say this was a Herculean task on everyone’s part, thank you to all the partners and artists that helped make it possible.

ATLANTA EMCEES SEÑOR KAOS AND 4-IZE ARE ULTRA BEAST

(ATLANTA, GA – May 17, 2011) Atlanta mainstay emcees Señor Kaos and 4-Ize have teamed up to form a new group known as Ultra Beast.

When you combine the forces of two superiorly talented individuals that have not only mastered but reinvented their craft, they become a more powerful, twice as brilliant, creative super power … an Ultra Beast!

The affiliation between the two emcees spans nearly a decade in the Atlanta Hip Hop scene. “I first met 4-Ize my senior year of high school at a local MC battle. He was funny, unique and had his own style, and from that moment I knew he was somebody I wanted to work with,” said Señor Kaos about his first meeting with 4-Ize.

The two first collaborated in 2001 and again in 2003, but it would be nearly ten years later in 2009 when the pair would record together again. (what inspired the reunion?)

“We recorded one song for my project, Illuminated Animals. Next thing you know, we had four records finished for the project. We started rocking shows together and recording more music which led to this current project. It was only a matter of time before Ultra Beast was unleashed,” said 4-Ize on his musical reunion with Señor Kaos.

The two are currently recording the new project which is scheduled for release later this summer. Their first offering is a track entitled “Wind Is High” produced by New York duo the Beatminerz.

Ultra Beast’s first show is May 28, 2011 at 9 p.m. at the Five Spot along with Cunninglyguists and Homeboy Sandman in Atlanta, GA.

New Music: 4-IZE Featured On SMKA Vol. 3 Project

Last weekend in ATL they had the release party for the SMKA Vol. 3 project. I made it stop thru there to see what the homie 4-Ize was talking bout. I also picked up my copy of the SMKA Vol. 3 CD. For those unfamiliar Señor Kaos was featured on Vol. 2 on a song with Fresh Daily and Kid Neer.

During the evening 4-Ize performed his song off the project which is called “Four 16′s.” The name comes from the song being composed of 4 16 bar verses put together with no hook. After he ripped this joint, I joined him on stage to help out with the song “Rap Sucks,” off his “Professional Ignorant” project.

If you haven’t heard Four 16′s yet check it out below. Also make sure you CLICK HERE to download the entire SMKA Vol. 3 project which features over 30 up and coming new spitters!

Download: “Total Chaos” feat. Andrew Davis, Senor Kaos, & 4-IZE. Produced By Fokeezy

This track just dropped yesterday… check it out.

total-chaos-artwork-2.jpg

“Total Chaos” is the first single from Fokis’ upcoming project “After The A3C” which was put together by Fokis’ company Loyalty Digital Corp. It is a compilation style album that features various artists and producers that were at the A3C last year (2010). “Total Chaos” features Señor Kaos, 4-Ize & Andrew Davis II, and is produced by Fokeezy (the name Fokis uses as a producer); “I have been a producer for many years but out of respect for my homie Focus… (Formerly of Aftermath Ent.) I use the name Fokeezy as a producer so people don’t get us confused. People always call me Fokeezy, that is like my nick name so its all good” laments Fokis.

The A3C hip-hop festival takes place in Atlanta GA, once a year in October for 3 days and is filled with performances, panels, meet & greets and great networking opportunites. “The A3C festival, to me represents Hip-Hop at it’s purest form, it is an event that every person who likes hip-hop should attend at least once in they’re lifetime” says Fokis. I heard some one refer to it as a “hip-hop candy store.” This project will give the listener who did not attend the festival an idea of what the A3C festival is all about” Fokis’ A3C project is slated for release in late March and you can expect appearances from Sha Stimuli, Esso, Punchline, Stryfe & many more.

Stay tuned
