News: Nike Basketball Now Open In Lenox Mall (ATL)

Nike just opened it’s first basketball brand experience retail space in ATL. Formerly the Nike Running Store in Lenox Mall, the store is now called “Nike Basketball” and opens just in time for March Madness and the 2013 Final Four which will be held in Atlanta next month. The space officially opened on March 15th with re-stocks of the Jordan Fire Red 5, Fighter Jet Foamposite, Jordan Thunder IV’s. News of the store opening spread quickly around the internet and by Friday morning nearly 100 people where lined up at it’s doors get a glimpse of the sight as well as to see what product would be in stock.

In addition to footwear, the store also carries plenty of Nike basketball college apparel, signature athlete footwear & apparel, a Nike I.D. studio where consumers can customize then order products, and even a Fuelband station in the center of the store. One of the things I thought was really cool is the wall when you enter the store. It’s shows you a history of Nike Basketball and does a great job of celebrating where the brand has been. When you reach the end of the wall it says “Create Your Future” and the world of Nike Basketball is at your palms. There’s also a chandelier made of Nike Basketballs hanging from the ceiling.

If you’re in Atlanta or planning to make a trip here in the near future, definitely stop by Nike Basketball in Lenox Mall to check it out. Basketball Never Stops!

Events: Prince & A Tribe Called Quest Secret Show @ SXSW

samsung.jpg

YEP! You read that right.

The South By Southwest (SXSW) music conference always has a few major surprises, but this year fans will get a rare treat as the legendary Prince is slated to headline an exclusive concert. This Saturday (March 16), Prince will close out Samsung’s SXSW festival and bringing along Hip-Hop legends A Tribe Called Quest for the ride, too.

The event is taking place at La Zona Rosa in downtown Austin as part of an innovative marketing strategy from Samsung. A randomly selected group of 250 Samsung users that participate in the tech company’s “Samsung Galaxy Experience” at the festival will get a chance to witness the iconic musician live. Attendees who have the coveted (and expensive) Platinum and Music badges for the festival will also gain exclusive entry to the private party.

CRAZY right?

Word is Prince will also be accompanied by a 22-piece band and will have a special stage remolded just for his show. Also hearing the rumble of Tribe on the road later this spring as they join the massive lineup for Yahoo’s On The Road tour featuring Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Frank Ocean, Nas and plenty others.

Looks like I’m gonna miss the show in Austin, but I’ll be looking forward to catching the Yahoo show for sure. Looks like brands are upping their budgets again. Let’s see what’s happens in 2013.

Events: Lebron X Cork Meet & Greet @ Wish ATL

Tomorrow is the day many sneakerheads have been waiting for. 2012 was a great year for Lebron James. That’s a huge statement cause 2010 was a not-so great year. Lebron after making the famous quote “I’m taking my talents to South Beach” during “The Decision” became the most hated player in the NBA. Former fans burned his jersey, the media scrutinized him, It was all bad!

Bron didn’t let the pressure get to him though. Coming back in his 2nd year with the Miami Heat he did what he set out to do… Win his first NBA Championship. Then he won MVP for the 3rd time… And during the summer he went to London where he won a gold medal for the U.S. Mens Basketball team. Not bad Lebron, not bad at all.

To commemorate all the celebrating Lebron has done Nike footwear designer Jonathan Johnson-Griffin will be making a stop in ATL tomorrow to celebrate with those lucky enough to receive a pair.

2/23/13 JJG will be doing a meet & greet at Wish in ATL where he will be signing boxes of the Lebron X Corks for those few lucky folks. Definitely stop by and meet the man behind the shoe. Check out all the info below.

Señor Kaos 2012 Black Friday Birthday Extravaganza Nov. 23rd (ATL)

Save the date, mark your calendar, do whatever you need to do to remember that my Birthday party is going down on Friday November 23rd, 2012 aka Black Friday.

For the past 3 years me and (Bugz In The Attic DJ/Producer) Daz-I-Kue have been celebrating our Birthday (which we share on 11.22) with a party with some of our favorite DJ’s. The rules are simple. You must dance, meet somebody new, and have fun. The past two years we’ve treated the ATL with Waajeed & Rich Medina. This year we’re keeping it ATL with DJ’s Kemit & Rasta Root.

In the spirit of Black Friday, we’re doing a 2 for 1 special like never before. Admission into the Birthday Jumpoff will also get you into the “Hot Vs. Dope” event next door at Space 2 with DJ’s J-Live & Applejac will be holding down the sounds at. Check the flyer below for the info and spread the word.

Events: A3C Hip Hop Festival 2012 (Recap)

It’s been over a week since the 8th annual A3C Hip Hop Festival took over ATL. It’s also taken the full week for me to recover.

The day before the festival kicked off, I caught RZA perform while touring the country to promote his new film “The man with the iron fist.”

After picking up my A3C badge for the weekend my first stop was WREK 91.1 (GA Tech Radio) for the weekly Wrekroom radio show. Special guests included Tona (Toronto), DJ Ko Flow (Singapore), Kevin Lester, Teff, Fiona Bloom, Greg Schick (World Hip-Hop), and Wrekroom fam.

After leaving the station I headed over to Terminal West to catch the Big Boi (Outkast) performance. The schedule says Big is supposed to be on stage at 10:30pm but my gut tells me that he’ll be on later. Sometimes it really pays to listen to your gut. I didn’t make it to Terminal West until around 11pm, but I was RIGHT on time as Big Boi was just hitting the stage. He started off by running through Outkast classics before getting into his solo material. Big had the crowd in the palm of his hand, he announces “I was only supposed to come out and do a few songs, but I want to keep rocking” to cheers from the whole room. Just when you think the energy can’t get any crazier, Killer Mike walks onto stage and the place erupts! Mike ran through the “Whole World,” “Akshun,” before leaving the stage. At the end of the show Big Boi was joined on stage by Dungeon Family crew; Backbone, Slimm Calhoun, C-Bone, Koncrete, and Killer Mike who came back out to perform the anthem “Kryptonite.” Overall the show was Awesome and set the bar for the weekend.

After the Big Boi show, I went straight to MJQ’s Druken Unicorn for the “Stay Productive” producers event. Being as late as I was, I was only able to catch some of Oh-No’s set, and missed the rest of the monsters who were scheduled to get down. At the end of the night I snapped a pic of Oh No, Khrysis, Yamin, Illastrate, and DT.

The highlight of my Friday was performing as well as hosting the Red Bull stage later that evening. I got the pleasure of hosting alongside Monie Love as well as introducing Slum Village, Beatnuts, and The Liks.

On Saturday I decided to check out the film screenings that were taking place during the festival. I made it out to catch Will Feagin’s “Change In The Game” documentary. We snapped this pic on the red carpet outside. After the film I jumped in the studio to work on a track with Sha Stimuli before returning to the festival to catch Twista, Diamond District, & Tech Nine.

Will-Screaning.jpg

Oh I also bumped into a few Native Tongues OG’s as well. Mike G (Jungle Brothers), Pos (De La Soul), Me & Monie Love.

Kaos-Native-Tongues.jpg

After all the festivities were over, I must admit I was dumb tired! Somehow with help of some friends I managed to scrape enough energy to make it to East Atlanta to catch the 9th Wonder vs. Young Guru party. When I arrived Just Blaze was actually djing, warming up the tables before 9th’s arrival.

9th-Wonder-vs-Young-Guru.jpg

Overall the festival was cool this year, I think I had more fun last year, but it was still cool.

See y’all in ATL next year for A3C #9.
