I know this is like a month late, but better late than never. Here’s some footage from Dj Spinna’s annual 4th of July BBQ in Broooklyn, NY.
People I bumped into that day were Pharoahe Monch, Sadat X, Dj Sarah Love (BBC Radio London), Sucio Smash, Miss Al Boogie, Mazzi, Nelson George, Fresh Daily, P.So, Lisa, and Azza.
The party was rocking, plenty of food, great music, and lots of *refreshments* Lol.
What was crazy is, this is the first BBQ I’ve ever been too that had a bouncer and a guest list at the front door. If you wasn’t on the list, it was a WRAP.

Shout out to the homie Dj Enchantd. If Enchantd wasn’t busy Djing, running the radio show (WREKroom), and building websites, he would probably be somewhere running a marketing company.
He put together this paintball event called “Who Shot Ya!” (sounds hot, right). The famalams came out and it went down. I sat this one out, and decided to take pictures instead. Check em out.

Today March 15th, 2009 marks the birthday of Chris “JAX” Thurston. If you’ve been checking the Blog for a min, you know the homie passed away back in November 2008. Today Jax would have been 33 years old.
So today we’re having a special BBQ (Binkis Cookout) to celebrate the life of Jax. The Grill is fired up, theirs wings, Turkey Dogs, Veggies, Mac N Cheese, Liquor, Liquor, and some Liquor! LOL And some Red Bull thanks to the homie Kecia who came threw.

“Jax Lives” on March 19 at the Earl
(ATLANTA – March 9, 2009) “Everybody Loves Chris – Jax Lives” on March 19 at the Earl is a tribute to the life of Chris “Jax” Thurston. Jax, a member of Atlanta Hip-Hop mainstay Binkis Recs, passed away suddenly late last year, leaving an irreplaceable void in the city.
The show was originally intended to be a Binkis Recs’ 10-year anniversary celebration which coincidentally coincides with Jax’s birthday on March 15. The event will now commemorate Jax’s life and legacy.
Jax always wanted to see local hip-hop groups Mars Ill and Minamina Goodsong perform once again together on the same stage. After several years on tour, both groups parted ways and left the scene to pursue other interests. For one night only, Mars Ill (emcee Manchild and DJ Dust) and Minamina Goodsong (emcees Pgnut, A.D., Twain and DJ T Challa) will reunite and perform on the same stage like it is still 2003.
The event will also be Binkis Recs’ first show since Jax passed away in November of 2008.
The door price is $10. Advance tickets are available online at www.ticketalternative.com for $8. All proceeds will be donated to Jax’s family.
Doors open at 9 p.m. Arrive early for the premiere of “Jax Forever,” a collection of interviews with friends remembering Jax. The short film is directed by Eljay Williams, who also produces Comcast’s The Stand On Demand, a mini-documentary series on independent hip-hop, and was produced after Jax passed.
