Salvatore Ferragamo – “A Man’s Story”

Often rules are made to be broken. For without, convention can never become disrupted. Salvatore Ferragamo celebrates a few of todays rule breakers through a visual, fashion experience. Featuring: Douglas Booth, Henrik Lundqvist, A$AP Rocky, Ryan McGinley, Alexander Gilkes, Louis-Marie De Castlebajac, & Tyrone Wood.

In 1914, 16-year-old Salvatore Ferragamo emigrated from southern Italy to Boston and then California where he convinced his brothers to join him in creating a made-to-measure shoemaking service. Within just five years it had become a beacon of luxury for Hollywood’s greatest stars, and the Ferragamo story was born. Salvatore Ferragamo followed his beliefs and made his own rules. 100 years on, Ferragamo presents A Man’s Story, an online series by photographer and filmmaker Francesco Carrozzini under the creative direction of the brand’s Massimiliano Giornetti, that highlights the notion of ‘making your own rules’. Through an intimate and compelling series of stories, told by an eclectic cast of contemporary men, Ferragamo’s luxury lifestyle collections are presented in new and surprising settings.

Fashion: The Return Of Jogger Pants

Last summer going into fall I a saw the trend of jogger pants starting the build. With brands like Zane Robe and Publish being at the forefront. In the 90′s and 2000′s men wore pants (sweats included) that would typically cover the top of their shoe. With sneaker culture being at an all time high things have been reversed with consumers wanting to show off their kicks more than ever.

Please don’t be fooled though. I heard a young guy state the other day how he liked jogger pants cause they were new. I made sure to let him know that joggers were BIG HUGE in the 80′s and have simply made a comeback. I remember owning a pair of grey ones in 3rd grade. I also remember watching shows like “Saved By The Bell” (Don’t judge me, Lisa Turtle was FINE! Lol) and seeing the colorful and printed joggers.

Like they say… “Things go in cycles.” I will say though the joggers of today are SO much more comfortable and they truly are the most comfortable pair of pants you will be probably own this year. When it comes to Jogger pants I prefer the brand Publish from a comfort, fit, and price standpoint. Check out a recent video from the brand and check your local retailer like Wish in ATL to catch you a pair (If they aren’t already sold out).

Events: Art + Sole + Life Recap ATL

This past friday evening Sole Plus in conjunction with Converse joined forces to present ART+SOLE+LIFE. The ART+SOLE+LIFE exhibit is sneaker art with a conscience, created to highlight the non-profit work of Sole Plus. In an exhibit that features artists telling the stories of their everyday lives using shoes as their canvas, A+S+L is the fusion of shoe design, art, activism, and philanthropy, rolled into a one-of-a-kind interactive exhibit that visually and emotionally takes each guest through the footsteps of sole expression.

The Sole Plus initiative began in October of 2009, and has allowed hundreds of young people to use their artistic views to connect with those in need. Sole Plus is a 501 – c3, non-profit organization that was founded on the quote by Pablo Picasso, “Art washes away from the [sole] the dust of everyday life.” The SOLES of our shoes collect dust and dirt from places traveled in the same way that our SOULS collect dust through life’s trials. The Sole Plus design competition metaphorically washes the dust and dirt from the SOULS of our young artists by providing them with an avenue of expression. The brainchild of Brian Keith Miller, Sole Plus literally washes away the dust and dirt from the SOLES of our shoe recipients by providing a needed pair of shoes to replace old ones.”
“The purpose of ART+SOLE+LIFE is to bring awareness to the Sole Plus initiatives. The exhibit also serve as a platform which showcases artists from the established art community who are willing to leverage their talents to support the Sole Plus mission”, states Brian Keith Miller (founder of Sole Plus). By combining the organization’s efforts and artist’s talents, A+S+L will show the community that the fusion of SOLE(shoes), Social activism, and ART is a unique and creative way to have an impact on the world. The artists (ART) use shoes (SOLE) to tell stories of everyday experiences (LIFE). A+S+L launch event has also partnered with the Nike Shoe Recycling Program: Nike Reuse-A-Shoe.

I was in the place repping with my Nike Familia (Clientele Cal and Warren). We held a Nike I.D. raffle, as well promoted the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program.

DJ G-Mack aka Hollywood G, was the evenings DJ who kept the sounds lively while people checked out the art that was on the shoes, as well as dove into the free drinks that were on hand courtesy of Saraphin.

Here’s some more pics from the evening.

Fresh Produce: New Era Fitted Black History Month Edition

365 Black Fact: Greenwood is a neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As one of the most successful and wealthiest African American communities in the United States during the early 20th Century, it was popularly known as America’s “Black Wall Street” until the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921. The riot was one of the most devastating race riots in history and it destroyed the once thriving Greenwood community. (Source)
