Sunday Morning Service

 Good Morning.

The best way to disconnect from wrong people is to become obsessed with doing the right thing. When you become obsessed with doing the right thing, wrong people will find you unbearable.

God Is Love,

Educated Black Woman

hopkins.jpg

Mary Hopkins, 36, will soon graduate with a math doctorate from Florida Atlantic University, one of five math PhDs expected to go to the largest class of women in the school’s history. She also will be the first black woman to earn a doctorate in math from FAU and only the third among all state universities since at least 1990.“I just had very encouraging teachers. I’ve heard of math teachers not encouraging females, especially minorities, but all of my professors are so great, and they’re all old white men,” said Hopkins, who spent a full hour last week working out a lengthy math question in front of her classmates and professors.
FAU will award four other women with math PhDs: Bashak Ay, Marcela Chiorescu, Zhihua Liu and Viktoria Villanyi. This type of story would never make front page news but it makes TKE!!!!!

Remembering Jax Part 4: Live From The Green Room: Video

Damn… I had already finished my Remembering Jax post for today, when I received this video. Dillion and Willie Evans in the Green Room cooking up some hotness Jax would of surely bobbed his head too.

Funky Fresh, thanks for this one Dillion, Willie has some heat. That part with the camera spinning on the turntable had me laughing my ass off for a good minute.

Check it out for yourself:

Stay tuned to Remembering Jax Part 5, maybe tomorrow or Sunday, depending on how busy the kid is.

Remembering Jax Part 3: Queens All Day

So this past weekend I spent more time in Queens, NY then I ever have in my life.

Last weekend myself, Mike Davis, and Binkis Recs crew drove up to New York for the big homie Jax’s Funeral. The service took place on Saturday morning of November 15th, 9am at the J Foster Phillips Funeral Home in Queens (Linden Blvd) to be exact.

The morning started out cold and rainy, Me and Chief Justice hopped a cab from East New York and took it out to QU. If you know Queens, you know once the trains stop, it’s all bus action for a min. And brothas was not dressed up to be sitting on the Bus! :???:

The Service was beautiful, and meeting Mrs. Thurston (Ma Duke) you can see where Jax got his sense of humor from. Family and Friends all stepped up to speak and share some fond memories.

After the funeral, we trooped out to Long Island to the cemetary where Jax was laid to rest in Farmingdale, NY.

I snapped a couple shots along the way. The big homie is finally chilling, resting, back in the Empire State.

After the cemetery it was off to Aunt Pam’s house, this is just the desert, the food was DELICIOUS!!!

Oh… along the way in Queens we passed Nu Clear Cleaners, the spot where A Tribe Called Quest Filmed the video for “Check The Rhyme,” kinda ironic because around the same time Chief Justice hits me and says Yo “Jax is the on the front page of All Hip Hop.com and the headline reads Phife’s New Artist Jax Dies On Stage!” ?????

We also passed a Chinese Restaurant named “Little Rabbit” on Linden, I’ll never forget that, I fell out laughing when I saw that. I’ll never eat at a Chinese spot called “Little Rabbit!”

OH… I got a quick story to share. So if you’ve been to a Funeral you know how the Funeral Procession works. Once everybody leaves the Church for the cemetery, everybody is giving a sticker to put in their car window, you put your emergency lights on and everybody stays in a line together. Also other cars are suppose to pull over to the side of the road as a matter of respect right? NOT IN QUEENS! People were trying to cut us off like crazy. Driving threw Farmers Blvd, Merrick, and Springfield Blvd, people were honking at us, trying to cut us off, it was crazy! I’m just happy there were no traffic accidents. Only in Nueva York I tell you.

Moving on… I just wanted to say thanks to the Thurston family for showing me the hospitality over the weekend. Everybody really made me feel like family. And I was treated to an early Thanksgiving by visiting Aunt Pam who set it out with the Food.

This is a lil inside look for those around the country / world who knew Jax but couldn’t make it to the funeral.

In Control: Words Of Wisdom

There are things you can control and things you cannot control. If you focus too heavily on those things you cannot control, it can lead to an overwhelming amount of frustration and anxiety.

Choose instead to focus your thoughts and efforts on those things upon which you can have a positive influence. There are plenty of those things, and by giving your energy to them you can quickly and significantly improve the quality of your life.

Stop worrying so much about what others are doing wrong. Instead, put your time and effort into discovering what you can do right, what you can do well, and in using your unique abilities to create excellence.

Whenever you feel yourself getting anxious or frustrated by something that’s beyond your control, stop and take a fresh look around. There’s something you can do, right then and there, that will make a positive difference in the world.

The more you make use of the positive power that you have, the stronger that power will grow. There is always something you can do, and it always beats complaining or worrying about those things you cannot do.
Do what you can, when you can, where you are, with what you have. You’ll find that it can make an enormous difference.

Señor Kaos Performance From JAX Tribute: VIDEO

Just got done uploading this footage. This is a video that was shot yesterday Nov 8th or me performing at the Tribute / Celebration for my big brother Jax.

Artists who took the stage that day included: Clan Destined, Dropbombz, Qualm Scott, Mojo Swagger, Eddie Meeks, Stharr The Femcee, Ness Lee, etc. The show was great. Shout out to out of towners Dynas and Supastition who came threw.

There’s TON’s more footage from this event, I just wanted to share this with you today.

As I got on stage, I made everybody in the crowd be quiet. I told them I had something very important to say and I need everybody to pay attention. Once people where quiet, I said “I just want to let everybody know…. that Light Skin Brothas are officially BACK!!!” That explains the Boos at the very start of this video. Dj Mafioso was laughing his ass off!

So… I choose to perform the song “Marquee” which is one of my favorite songs made by Binkis Recs. It first appeared on vinyl on 2003 on Bobbito’s then Fruitmeat Label. I always loved the energy in this record. It was a surprise as I didn’t tell anybody not even Flux that I was performing this song. It was a VERY Difficult task for me as I performed both Jax and Flux’s part off the record.

Half way threw the song Flux hops up on stage and things got CRAZY! I must say I never felt more alive than this particular moment.

I’m so glad it was captured on video. After getting off the stage I was so emotional, my eyes filled up with tears. It was a honor for me to get to perform this song on THIS stage for once in my life.

Enjoy the video…

Consequence – Job Song: VIDEO

This was one of my favorite songs of Consequence’s “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” Album. “How I stuck in this dead end job, when I can rap,” Is the question a lot of talented artists are asking themselves.

Check out the new video directed by Rik Cordero.

If you missed Consquence’s album, which most of you probably did, make sure you go back and check that out!!!
