New Music: Artifacts – “Easter” Produced By Khrysis

Okay, Okay… So I get it, Eater was yesterday. Well guess what? I took the day off from the blog and spent some well deserved time with the fam and ate GOOD. So I’m just getting to this today. What is it you ask? It’s the new joint from Jersey duo the Artifacts… Wait, not just another new joint, the Artifacts (El Da Sensei & Tame One) haven’t released much as a group since the new millennium. So this is kinda a big deal.

New Music: Rah Digga – The Ni@@ga In Me (Fat Trel & Tyler The Creator Diss)

Today Rah Digga released a track entitled “The Ni@@ga In Me” throwing some bars at Fat Trel and Tyler The Creator (Odd Future). Apparently the two have recently mentioned Digga in expense of their jokes, and now… they must pay.

When I first read the subject in my e-mail I was hoping this wasn’t an attempt to get people to pay attention to Rah Digga (as many disses in Hip Hop are nowadays). I was also thinking “who the hell is Fat Trel, and why is Rah Digga dissing them?” HA… However after listening to the track it doesn’t appear to be a phony diss (a la Common x Drake) out of left field. Digga is letting these two (as well as every other emcee for that matter) know just because she’s been silent, doesn’t mean she’s too buy to give you a lyrical ass wopping. And she definitely puts them in their place as a real emcee should.

Rah Digga says: “I didn’t make this record for press purposes or for hype cuz that’s not my thing. I got wind of various artists referencin me in a negative fashion. They poked fun at me I’m just pokin back. Its all sport to me. I wish em all the best, they just need to understand who is off limits. MC Lyte is off limits. Rah Digga is off limits. Respect those who kept hip hop raw so that we could still have a culture or get a first hand lesson in a lyrical ass whoopin. Love is love.” – Rah Digga

Video: Gorillaz w/ Andre 3000 & James Murphy – “DoYaThing”

“A monster of a collab, A beast of a track” is what the Gorillaz new single “DoYaThing” with Andre 3000 is James Murphy is being called.

Sooo first I heard the original 5 minute version of this song about a month ago… Then I hear the raw & uncut 13 minute version… Then I find out there’s a video for this joint… THEN I find out Converse is behind the whole thing. I wonder what I’ll learn next.

Andre 3000 MURDERS the verse on this joint, and really spazzes out on the 13 minute version.

The Gorillaz also have a new limited edition Chuck Taylor All Star collection available for purchase.

Video: Game “The City” Featuring Kendrick Lamar

New video from Game for the song “The City” featuring Kendrick Lamar. This is one of my favorite tracks off Game’s “RED” album, and Kendrick gets busy at the end of this joint. Two of the best spitters from Compton on the same track. Can’t go wrong with that.

Events: Red Bull Music Academy Atlanta Session (Recap)

On Sunday March 11th I hosted the Red Bull Music Academy Atlanta Session / kick off party at Cloud IX Lounge in Castleberry Hill. The event was designed for Atlanta tastemakers and artists to learn more about what Red Bull Music Academy is. It also served as a chance to pick up copies of the 2012 Red Bull Music Academy application, various assets CD (which features music from last years Academy in Madrid, Spain), network with other artists, as well as catch RBMA Alum DJ Rasta Root speak about his experience with attending the Academy in Rome, Italy.

DJ Rasta Root had some great stories to share about his experience at the Rome session. Everything from meeting legendary engineer Bob Power to seeing Serato being used for the first time Afterwards we opened it up for a Q&A with Roots. Definitely a great event. Thanks to everybody who got a chance to attend as well as the Red Bull fam: Mike Vaughn, Ciji, Alex, and Hustle.

NEWS: Atlanta Duo SMKA Featured In Jezebel Magazine

I just happened to be flipping through the February issue of Jezebel Magazine the other day to my surprise I see an article on Atlanta production duo SMKA. I had a chance to work with SMKA on their “SMKA Presents The 808 Experiment Volume 2.” Blake & Mike have been making big moves since they stepped on the scene in 2008 with their first project. From the albums, to events, to their blog they’ve ushered in a new era of Indie Hip Hop in ATL.
