Jay Z on Charlie Rose

Senor Kaos is a Jay Z fan. Me not so much. With that said I caught Shawn Carter on PBS being interviewed by Charlie Rose regarding his new album AMERICAN GANGSTER (425,000-450,000 first week sales). And I thought WHOA!

Worst things about Atlanta nightlife

It’s hard to describe what Señor Kaos actually does for a living without using a bunch of slashes. Let’s see, MC-slash-marketer-slash-street-connoisseur-slash — you get the idea. What we do know is his Vintage Imperial marketing firm serves as a conduit between the streets and the suites. That translates to cool shows like the Scion-sponsored Ghostface Killah performance slated for Nov. 26 at the Loft. But one thing Kaos can’t afford to associate himself with is wackness. Here’s a list of types he avoids like kryptonite while orchestrating Atlanta nightlife.

1) The corny: “Door girls.”

2) The grimy: “Party promoters who you have to chase to get paid.”

3) The hyphy: “Crackheads posing as parking attendants.”

4) The frisky: “Bouncers who get a lil’ too close when they pat you down.”

5) The sheisty: “Club promoters who put people on their fliers that they know aren’t going to be at the party.”

Can I Live?

(there’s a lot of causes to jump behind out there. this is simple, spiteful and easy to help out. READ!)

people complain about NYC nightlife all the time. it’s dying, it’s dull, homogenous. everybody’s a DJ, nobody’s a fan. so to solve any problem it’s important to “stop complaining and do something about it.”

so co-owners of Triple Crown in Williamsburg (some of them DJs) did a few years ago. and they’ve had some poppin ass parties. but they got some popping ass neighbors too, who no matter how hard they’ve invested in soundproofing the place, not opening every night of the week, making sure smoking patrons take it across the street (annoying!), etc. they continued to make noise complaints. police would come bust up parties on a nightly basis, give out summons’ for curtains on windows (!!) basically puttin these cats outta beeswax.

so they decided to move on and sell the place to a quiet cafe/bar owner. everybody’s happy right?? plot twist, the community board (a group of unelected officials who have to approve all business sales in the area) are blocking the sale to new owners. damn!! can they live??!!

the owners have another meeting with the community board on Nov. 8 and to approve a possible new owner. they’re trying to get as many signers to their online petition to present to the community board to let them know it’s not right to go into deep deep deep financial debt from community spite. get behind this. it’s so simple.

check out info and video below AND SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION!:

Lights Out!!

Radio host and organizer Warren Ballentine hopes a “national blackout” of businesses will send Washington a message that blacks are fed up with racism and injustice, and he rejects criticism that his campaign is un-American.”The history of our country is about what I’m calling for,” Ballentine said. “If the federal government is not doing what it’s supposed to do, we protest. There’s nothing more American than what I’m calling for.” The inspirations for the boycott are many: a flurry of nooses hung in public places; the case of six teens charged as adults with attempted murder in Jena, Louisiana, after a racially charged school fight; the conviction of Genarlow Wilson, a black teen charged with child molestation after having consensual oral sex with another teen; and the rape and torture of Megan Williams, a West Virginia woman forced to eat animal feces by six whites who berated her with racial slurs.Ballentine’s hope is that if elected officials aren’t hearing the voice of black America, maybe they’ll listen when money talks. His efforts have drawn the support of the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and several other groups. By some estimates, the U.S. economy could lose millions of dollars if the more than 40 million African-Americans keep their wallets in their purses and pockets Friday. But it’s difficult to pin down the boycott’s impact because it depends on who takes part and to what extent.

A study by the University of Georgia’s Selig Center for Economic Growth says blacks are expected to spend about $845 billion after taxes this year, or more than $2.3 billion a day — but using that number to gauge the boycott’s effectiveness presupposes that every African-American participates and that no other races join in.

The Top Ten
These states led the nation in terms of black buying power in 2006:

• New York — $75.6 billion
• Texas — $58.1 billion
• California — $55.7 billion
• Georgia — $54.4 billion
• Florida — $52.7 billion
• Maryland — $47 billion
• Illinois — $39.4 billion
• North Carolina — $35.9 billion
• Virginia — $35.1 billion
• Michigan — $31.8 billion
Source: Selig Center for Economic Growth

The number is skewed, too, because it doesn’t account for expenditures such as mortgage payments and utility bills, said Selig Center Director Jeffrey Humphreys. Housing-related expenditures, which account for 36 percent of money doled out by black consumers, are “unlikely to be affected by a one-day boycott,” he said.

So yeah, there is no doubt that we have ALOT of buying power, and money definitely talks. As soon as we realize that we are more powerful as a collective and get unified like we should be, the sooner we’ll get to see some change around here.

GA Supreme Court Frees Genarlow Wilson

After spending four years in prison for having oral sex with a 15 year old girl when he was 17, Genarlow Wilson is a free man. The Ga. Supreme court voted 4-3 that his sentence represented “cruel and unusual punishment”. The court also found that Wilson’s punishment makes “no measurable contribution to acceptable goals of punishment” and that Wilson’s crime did not rise to the “level of adults who prey on children.”

I just want to say that I’m glad I voted for Chief Justice Leah Sears and we still have a ways to go. We still got Jena 6 in Louisiana & Meagan Williams in Logan, WV. Let’s wake up people!!!!

NEWLY CREATED HIGH WATER MUSIC RECORD LABEL TO RELEASE STELLAR LINE-UP OF INDIE PROJECTS

Indie Hip-Hop’s Newest Record Label to Release Several Highly Anticipated LPs

Sucio Smash, founder of High Water Music, is the protégé of legendary Bobbito Garcia, and co-host of WKCR’s renowned underground hip-hop FM radio show, Squeeze Radio (Fridays 1am-5am EST). With his label, Sucio is looking to develop artists for the future, rather than follow the norm of looking to the past for musical saviors. With nearly ten years of music industry experience under his belt, Sucio will play host to the creation and execution of several independent projects that will be released under his High Water Music label.

The roster for High Water Music will include: Sputnik Brown, Fresh Daily, Soul Purpose, a collaborative LP between Breeze Brewin’ (Juggaknots) and Oh No, and the long-awaited follow-up to DJ Spinna’s “Heavy Beats Volume I.” This is just the beginning of High Water Music’s long list of notable projects as they look to continue signing and releasing remarkably unique talent.

High Water Music’s first release, available October 23rd, will be Sputnik Brown’s single, “U Havin’ Fun Yet?” from their forthcoming album, “Three Shades of Black.” The album itself has an approximate release date of February 2008. American Gangsta Trailer

Have you seen it??? Who hasnt!!
Reports are saying American Gangsta is already the most Bootlegged movie on this year. About a week ago the movie leaked via Internet, which is common…. But this joint leaked with DVD Quality and it’s in Surround Sound HAHA!!! There isnt a babershop in the city who hasn’t seen this joint. The news is saying they estimate there’s already 80,000 Bootleg copies in the streets.

WOW….I have seen the movie myself, I’m not one to really support bootlegging, so I’ll let you check the trailer below.

On another note, I find it interesting there calling for “Blackout” (Black Economic Boycott – means dont spend no damn money on this day) this Friday, the same day every black person in America was planning on seeing this movie! Things that make you go Hmmm.!
