Rocksteady Crew 32nd Anniversary Concert: Photos

So like I said in the last post on July 26th, 2009 I was invited to perform at the 32nd annual celebration for the World Famous Rock Steady Crew. Every year the last weekend of July RSC takes time to celebrate with a series of events, B Boy/ B Girl Battle, Workshop, Celebrity Softball / Basketball Game, and back in the day there used to be an Emcee battle element, that doesn’t happen anymore.

This year scheduled performers included Sean Price, Masta Ace & ED O.G., Tanya Morgan, U God, Grand Puba, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shonte, Blaq Poet, Myself – Señor Kaos, Tiye Pheonix, Jeru The Damaja, and MORE. OH DID I MENTION THIS CONCERT WAS FREE?!!

During the day I snapped a couple pics check it.

Set list by the stage. I rocked early in the day, which was a blessing cause of the weather… you’ll see later, stay tuned.

ESCAPE FROM ROCKSTEADY!!!

Aiiiiiight like I’ve been saying the day started off great, then all of sudden around 6pm, the sky got REAL dark, these clouds came in, the wind picked up, and before you knew it MONSOON!

Blaq Poet and Dj Premier were on stage, a lot of cats were backstage getting ready to rock, the show was reaching it’s apex. As Poet was performing it started raining, some people started leaving, while others stayed and chilled. Then the lightning started hitting, the rain got stronger, and they pulled the plug on the show. Even once they shut the show down there was still hundreds of people in the crowd who weren’t moving!!!

Meanwhile backstage, people were running for cover in any tent they could, people were crawling under the stage to keep dry, I climbed on a nearby picnic table and took cover there.

The rain came down HEAVY for a good 30 mins. When it was finally over, the ground was literally flooded. There was a good 4 inches of water on the ground. Cats was ruining they sneakers walking threw it. I chilled for a while, when I noticed C Rayz Walz making an escape for it in a trash bag outfit. LOL

As I was coming up with a plan to get from this picnic table to dry land, Cormega came from the stage, and put these chairs together and made a path. Genius!!! I helped him find a path outta there, then followed the chairs right to the end.

End of the day, I made out alive, with dry kicks! :) I linked with the homie Mazzi and we ended up driving damn near to Connecticut to find food. Lol. What a day, what a day.

OH… and here’s a bonus. Some footage from behind the scenes of the video shoot. I wanted to get WAY more footage but my memory card ended up getting full, so I had to fall back. All in all it was a Great day, lots of laughs and was great to spend the day around such distinguished people. And I can’t forget, gotta shout out Lonni from Boston who came threw and was dropping hot pizza slices on cats! Lol.

Dj Kemit Birthday Party / Spread Love: Photos

I met this gentleman by the name of John Crooms some years ago maybe 2004 or 2005. He was always in all the dope events snapping pictures. Over the years he’s snapped pics at some of my events, caught me acting up at other peoples events, and I’ve hired him to cover some events for me. Although it’s been a while (lightyears if you ask Crooms) since I’ve cut him a check, Crooms is still out on the weekly captures moments from some of your favorite events. Good dude, If I say so myself.

Another Good dude, is Dj Kemit. Kemit is a O.G. on the Turntables and I’ve watched him rock parties with house sets, Hip Hop sets, Afro Beat, etc. The dude is a beast, and on top of that, he’s also a genuinely good person. He’s also supported my endeavors over the years, and I appreciate him for that.

With that being said, Kemit celebrated is Birthday this past weekend. If your in ATL you know how Kemit gets down around this Birthday. I’m still a lil upset a missed a lot due to work (somebody has to make the donuts). But happy Mr. John Crooms once again captured the event for me.

Here’s some pics from the Dj Kemit / Spread Love Birthday Shindig that took place this past Friday at 595 North in ATL.

Make sure you check out John Crooms Photo Blog and Kemit’s Spread Love Blog
