Pics: Chauncey Davis Football Camp At Grady High School

On Saturday June 11th I was invited out to the Chauncey Davis Footcamp Camp at Grady High School. The camp was targeted to middle school age African American youth in Atlanta who are looking forward to playing football in high school. The camp was put on my Atlanta Falcons players Chauncey Davis, Johnathan Babineaux, and Baltimore Ravens’ Daniel Wilcox. It was also a FREE camp which I’m sure the parents really enjoyed. The kids got to learn the fundamentals and got a chance to work on some training aspects of their game.

You never know which one of these kids might make it to the NFL on day.

Events: House Of Hoops Atlanta Grand Opening Event Tomorrow

house-of-hoops-atl-grand.jpg

Last year around this time there was a BIG rumor that Foot Locker was finally opening up a House Of Hoops location in Atlanta. The rumor as I remember it was, there was going to be a new HOH location inside South Dekalb Mall (Decatur). Then the rumor switched locations, and Greenbriar Mall (Southwest Atlanta) became the intended target.

Then suddenly the rumors dried up. No House of Hoops ever opened in either mall, or in ATL, and all the attention shifted to the new NYC HOH location in Roosevelt Field and later to the new store in Miami.

A lil birdie told me about a month ago that there was going to be a House Of Hoops (HOH) opening in the ATL area and that it would be launching in Southlake Mall this summer. I must say I did NOT believe the news when I heard it.

Well it turns out it’s true. The Shoe Game leaked the info a few weeks back about the soft launch opening of the store. Now the grand opening info has been made public. The grand opening will take place tomorrow (Tues) at 2:30pm. 2pm on a Tuesday? I guess it’s more unemployed sneaker heads and basketball junkies than I thought in the area.

Sooooooooooo I think it’s cool the city is finally getting a House Of Hoops, as it’s long overdue. BUT I’m also a lil baffled at why the location although called HOH Atlanta is in Morrow, GA? I haven’t been to Southlake in about 10 years. Unless you live on that side of town (South Suburbs), there’s nothing to go over there for. I’m not understanding why they couldn’t put this location somewhere actually IN Atlanta. *Heavy Sigh*

Oh well…

If you live on the southside or interested in making a drive, House Of Hoops (outside) Atlanta opens tomorrow afternoon.

Freedom For Your Feet: Nike Free Run 2

I posted this video on Facebook about a week ago, but never got a chance to post it on the Blog.

The Nike Free Run Plus was released in Spring 2010. The shoe was made in a ton of color-ways and became highly popular. Oprah even featured the shoe on her “Ultimate Favorite Things of 2010″ show.

The special thing about the Free Run is it’s designed to simulate barefoot running, so it has a very flexible and lightweight feel on the foot. “Freedom For Your Feet.”

Check out this video with Tony Bignel (Nike Running Footwear Global Director) speaking on all the cool features of the shoe.

The Nike Free Run Plus 2 will be available on April 1st. I can’t wait to see all the color-ways they come with for this shoe.

Enjoy Your Run.

Television: ESPN 30 For 30 Fab 5 Documentary Airs Tonight Sunday March 13th @ 9pm

The long basketball shorts, the black socks, the attitude on the court, the Nike Air Huaraches, the infamous time out, and the five young African American men who changed the game of college basketball, better known as the “Fab Five.” Jalen Rose, Ray Jackson, Jimmy King, Juwan Howard, and Chris Webber were five University Of Michigan Freshman who went all the way to the NCAA National Championship in 1991.

20 years later, four of them sit down (minus Chris Webber) to talk about Michigan, Duke, the media, death threats, scandel, and any and everything else. This is pretty much what every basketball and Hip Hop head will be watching this evening at 9pm.

Check out this lil clip below to get you caught up too speed.

Because of the Fab Five I BEGGED my mother for a pair of Nike Air Huaraches. I wore black crew Nike socks, and I sagged my basketball shorts so they would look longer. Today these are things that commonplace, but back in 1991 all of this was unheard of. These young men brought something fresh and exciting to the game at the time. Even my mother was cheering on the Fab Five.

This is definitely a MUST see. Make sure you tune into ESPN tonight at 9pm.

Video: Auburn Vs. Oregon Game Highlights

This past Sunday night left the Atlanta, GA area with about 4 inches of show and no salt trucks to put salt/sand down on the roads. So naturally come Monday, the streets were NO place to be with a car. They even declared us a state of emergency and told everybody to stay in the house. What does all of that have to do with college football you ask???

Well I had been planning on catching the Auburn vs. Oregon game with a view friends. In fact I was really looking forward too it. Instead I was snowed in with no way to view the championship showdown. Various text messages kept me updated, and the next day I scoured the net looking for footage.

Unfortunately I didn’t find anything too interesting… until I found this clip below. Shouts to this 15 years kid who goes by Danger TV. He taped this off his DVR and has the games highlights in HD. When I was 15 just taping television shows onto VHS was pretty high tech. I

f you missed the game (like me, which you probably didn’t) you can check out the rundown below.

Pretty close game huh? Congrats to Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers aka War Eagles for making it happen.

Commercials: Big Boi NFL Pepsi Max Ad Spot – Video

The NFL and Pepsi are celebrating the NFL-post season by bringing some of hip hop’s best artists together to create original tracks about the playoff games. This weekend’s track includes one from ATL’s Big Boi, killing it on Game Green – the Packers vs the Eagles. This video was shot in Atlanta and was directed by Hudson Dusters.

I’m hearing there’s supposed to be another spot with Talib Kweli as well.

Who’s your pick to win the Super Bowl this year???

Vintage Video: Michael Jordan On David Letterman 1896

I caught this video on Kix and the City yesterday.

Few things I found interesting. MJ was playing for the Bulls before he officially finished college. Mike had a LOT of endorsements early in career, and there’s a LOT of politics in the endorsement world, as you can see by watching this clip.

And I don’t know who’s Mikes stylist was but that patent leather jump suit is Ugggggly!

MJ: The shoe doesn’t have any white in it. DL: Neither does the NBA! HA! For all you Air Jordan fans out there check this out.

Aug 13th – 15th marked the first annual Nike World Basketball Festival in NYC. I didn’t get a chance to make it to NYC for the festivities, but I heard the city was on fire. The Rucker, MSG, Niketown, Atmos, etc. all had special events going on during the week.

Check out this video piece shot by Ola Kudu at Rucker Park during WBF.
