Television: Big Rec Is The First Emcee To Perform On Wheel Of Fortune (Video)

I caught this video on Facebook a week or so ago. Footage of the homie Big Rec (The Five) repping on Wheel Of Fortune. Turns out the homie went on the game show, won the whole thing, then kicked some bars at the end. WOW.

Big Rec is the first emcee I know to kick it with Pat Sajack and Vanna White.

REAL.. HIP.. HOP.. IS.. BACK!!!

Television: Black Star (Mos&Kweli) Perform “Little Brother” On Jimmy Fallon w/ The Roots

Video of Black Star performing the song “Little Brother” (orig. featured on the Hurricane movie soundtrack) produced by J-Dilla.

I remember hearing this joint for the first time on 88.5 in ATL I recorded it to a cassette tape on Sunday and played it non stop thru the week. Never get tired of hearing this joint. Not sure why they picked this particular record (would love to hear the backstory).

Hopefully 2012 bring us more music from these fellas. Spotted at Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

Television: Common, Lupe Fiasco, & LL Cool J Perform With Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel

I caught this last night. Common, Lupe Fiasco, and LL Cool J perform “The Message” with Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mell for a Grammy Nomination concert. Good to see Hip Hop on TV for once. And check out how the crowd was ROCKING. The powers that be keep telling us the people don’t wanna hear that real Hip Hop, but I think their wrong.

Shouts to @YardieIz4Life for the footage.

Health: Fat Joe “Drops A Body” Loses 100 Pounds

I recently caught this on the net. WOW. Congrats for Fat Joe for dropping some pounds. This comes a week after the loss Heavy D.

I personally thought Joe would of thought of dropping the weight after Big Pun passed away back in 2000. Seems like lately artists’ health isuses have been popping up left and right. You had Nate Dogg a few years ago with his two strokes, then Rick Ross recently with his seizures, and just a few days ago I heard news about Erick Sermon having a heart attack. It’s time to WAKE up people. If you don’t take care of your body, your body will take care of you that’s for sure.

But with all that said… Once again Salute to Fat Joe for seeing the light and getting his health on track. He sits down with CNN to talk about how even though the pounds are gone, he still will be known “Fat Joe!”

Television: Black Star Perform New Record “Fix Up” On The Colbert Report + Interview

A week after Black Star cancelled their show in ATL (and the rest of the tour from what I’m hearing) they stopped by the Colbert Report to perform a new record called “Fix Up.” I take it from the “Madlib Invasion” shouts in the intro, this joint is produced by Madlib.

Here is footage of the performance as well as the interview with Steven Colbert which is pretty hilarious by the way. Mos Def talks about his name change to Yasiin Bey, and they lace Colbert with the classy warrior package. Mos says “Cause if it’s a class war, you should be a classy warrior” Word. New Black Star in 2012? I guess we’ll see.

“I got swag and you gave me some swagger” – Steven Colbert. I guess that’s what the Fix Up is all about.

Television: Big Daddy Kane (Unsung) TV-One Documentary (VIDEO)

At the end of June the long awaited “Unsung” documentary on Big Daddy Kane aired on BET’s TV-One network. I caught it on Okay Player a few days later, and I thought I posted it. BUT looks like I never did. So just in case you haven’t caught it yet, here it is for your viewing pleasure.

FYI… Big Daddy Kane is one of my favorite emcee’s ever. I can’t talk about my top 5 without mentioning Kane. He mixed Style, Content, and Showmanship like very few. His rapid-fire delivery set the bar and ushered in the next wave of emcees like Jay-Z, Big Pun, and Señor Kaos.

I can say during my lifetime I’ve not only had the pleasure of listening to BDK’s music during it’s era, but I’ve also gotten a chance to see him perform live at least 3 times, as well as met the man in person. Whether your a BDK novice or die hard fan, this documentary is a must see. Check it out.

News?: 4-Ize Featured On CBS News For Sticker Campaign

4-IZE.jpg

It’s a SAD day in ATL news when human smuggling is at an all time high, homeless people are running around the city rampant, and dealers are selling crack-cocaine in broad daylight on busy streets in Atlanta. … And THIS is what the news has to talk about? (Allen Iverson Voice): “All that’s going on in the city of Atlanta, and we talking bout stickers? We talking bout stickers? not the crime, not the un-employment, but we talking bout stickers!?”

So last night me and the homie 4-Ize hit the studio and knocked out a record produced by Floyd The Locsmif for this Ultra Beast project. After the studio we went over to Door 44 for the Crown Royal Big Boi event with Killer Mike and Pill. A lil after 11pm 4-Ize’s phone starts blowing up. People are calling him to let him know he’s just been featured on the nighty news. From the way it sounded at first, the police were looking for the homie, so we shook the spot ASAP!

What was he featured on the evening news for? Promotional stickers that he put up all over the city of ATL some 4 years ago. Now if you’ve ever been to ATL you have surely seen the red and white 4-Ize stickers at every major intersection, exit ramp, etc. These stickers didn’t just appear overnight, they’ve been up for some 4 years now, and the city has been too lazy to take em down.

So shouts to the news for being 4 years LATE on reporting about this, and shouts to Tony McNary for the FREE publicity. Shouts to 4-Ize for going HARD promoting himself. He put up SOOOOO many stickers that the news had to say something about it…. now that’s pretty Gangsta!

Make sure you check out 4ize.com to purchase music, downloads, show updates, etc. Also you catch 4-Ize on Twitter as well.

The funny part, is where the news says “they tried to contract 4-Ize but didn’t receive a response.” 4-Ize says “Maaaaaaaan ain’t nobody tried to contact me!” This just shows you how BOGUS the news is, and how you believe everything you see on TV. Feel free to hit up Tony McNary (The Writer Of The Story) and let him know how wack he is. Tony.Mcnary@cbsatlanta.com
