NBAF – Road To Freedom Exhibit: Civil Rights Movement 1956-1968

We have been selected as one of the official Blogging partners for the 20th anniversary of the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. We will be covering a few events for the Festival. Taking a couple pics and posting the re caps for you all to see.

Yesterday I made a stop by the High Museum of Art. The plan was to check out 2 exhibits. The Road To Freedom: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement 1956 – 1968 and After 1968: Contemporary Artists and The Civil Rights Legacy.

If you recall April 2008 marked the 40th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s assassination.

As I arrived I bumped into my good friend NV and Joyce Littel from V-103 outside. The museum is not big on photographers, so I had to jump threw a couple hoops to make sure I could take a couple pics for you guys. There’s also no flash photography allowed at all inside, so I had to do what I could.

First things first… The exhibit is very powerful. I suggest anyone who has kids to take them to see this. It does a great job of covering the CRM in a way thats enlightening as well as very educational.

It’s very interesting to think about how only 50 years ago, segregation was in full force in America. The question I think about the most after viewing this exhibit is “are African Americans so comfortable, that we forgot about the road to freedom?”

Things I’ve Been Sleeping On:

Coupons

coupons.JPG

As I kid I remember my mother going threw coupons, clipping them and keeping track of what stores had what sales going on.

As an adult I cant tell you when the last time was that I used a coupon. Maybe like 4 years ago when Mrs. Winners had coupons for buy one get one free Chicken Biscuits.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the economy sucks right now!

So today I actually decided to take a lot at all those coupons that were just sitting around my place. I found a few interesting sales.

Especially from Radio Shack. They have 50 pack CD-R’s for $8 and 4GB USB flash drives for $25. Also found some coupons for Popeyes! Combos for $3 and all that. Check out that new Nas song called “Fried Chicken.” Everytime I hear it I start thinking about the nearest Popeyes. Bottom line times are hard, and I’ve really been sleeping on Coupons!!!
