Today is November 22nd, 2009 which means it’s MY BIRTHDAY!!!
2009 has been a very rough year for a lot of people including myself, and I really need to unwind. Uncle Luke To The Rescue. I want my Birthday Gathering tomorrow night to look like this Video! LOL
Starting last Wednesday I noticed Google.com had Big Bird’s legs on the site as apart of the Google Doodle. Then the next thing I know on Thurs. Cookie Monster was there, Friday Elmo, Sat. Bert & Ernie, Sunday Oscar, and yesterday The Count was there. I said hey what’s going on here.
Clicking on the Google link I found out that today November 10th, 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of my favorite childhood TV show Sesame Street.
Today if you visit www.google.com you’ll notice it features all of the characters who have been present the past few days and a few more.
To celebrate the 40 year anniversary, today First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on the show with Elmo and Big Bird to teach the block how to plant a garden.
Words below from David Zurawik at the Baltimore Sun
How can this be? On a day of such great celebration, the 40th anniversary of “Sesame Street,” Big Bird wants to leave the urban nest that has been home for four decades and migrate to the rain forest? The rain forest!
Elmo is so rattled he can barely speak as Big Bird comes to say goodbye. “But Sesame Street is where Big Bird lives,” Elmo squeaks to the group of old friends, including Gordon, Maria and Snuffleupagus, who have gathered to see the yellow feathered one off.
The rest of the world might be focused on first lady Michelle Obama coming to The Street today to show Elmo and some of the children how to plant their own vegetable gardens. And symbolically, her appearance to help launch this special season is huge. As I said on WYPR last week, “Sesame Street,” with its groundbreaking message of multiculturalism, did more to pave their way for the election of the first person of color as president than any other series in the history of the medium.
Kinda weird Malcolm X died 44 years ago, the same year we have the 44th President – Barack Obama. What would Brother Malcolm think of Barack if he was alive today? Hmmm…
Today Saturday, February 21, 2009, marks an unfortunate anniversary—it has been 44 years since the murder of Malcolm X at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem.
Malcolm was definitely someone who demonstrated change. From Malcolm Little to Detroit Red to Malcolm X. His courage and dignity are still relevant as we contemplate how to bring about real peace, freedom, justice and equality to our country.
My father made me read the Autobiography of Malcolm X when I was ten years old. I’ll never forget the thick book with the all red pages. It definitely changed my life as a youngster.
Rest In Peace to Brother Malcolm.
I’ll leave you guys with “By Any Means Necessary”
Also if your in NYC. There’s a statue of Malcolm at the Audobon Ballroom where he was assassinated. I believe Audobon is around 165th and B Way Uptown.
Today’s mathematics is Culture/Freedom. I Cee Culture as your way of life, language(wisdom) and actions. The path laid before you. Freedom is to have a free-dome. Unrestricted thoughts and actions. Supreme Mathematics is the culture that brings about Freedom. Your free to choose the way you want to live life. Your decisions can take you into the depths of this world or can hang you from it. The Orignal man’s culture is Islam: freedom, justice, and equality, which is peace.
My Culture currently barricades all negative energy and products that bring about a negative change in my demeanor. On a daily basis we are tested through various trails and tribulatons only to cee if we will alter our Culture. If your Understanding is pure then you will maintain your free-dome.
I got a chance to kick it with J Live yesterday for a hot second. Real Talk I had no idea the album had been officially released. I honestly feel like since they stopped printing poster boards or going crazy with the stickers, I dont remember release dates on albums.
Anyway I got a chance to hear most of the LP last fall when I was in NYC. Nothing short of Brilliant. The new album is called “And Then What Happened” – Make sure ya’ll go out and Cop this joint. I know, I know, you dont buy music without hearing a single. So here, I provided you with a lil something to help your purchase.
The key is to get to know people and trust them to be who they are. Instead, we trust people to be who we want them to be, and when they’re not, its hurts!
Yesterday April 3rd Legendary B Boy and Rock Steady Crew Member “Frosty Freeze” passed away. Rest in Peace Frosty Freeze! Now I have to get something off my chest. Earlier this afternoon I was talking to Rodney Carmichael from Creative Loafing and I was telling him about a conversation I had earlier in the day with someone else, who views them-self as a “Hip Hop Head,” student of the game whatever you want to call it. During out convo I say “damn, did you know Frosty Freeze just passed away,” and they say “WHO?” Im thinking maybe my cell phone is breaking up or something, so I say his name again “you know Frosty Freeze from the Rock Steady Crew,” and they were still like hmmm “WHO?” I moved on in the conversation, but after I got off the phone I realized how upset that made me feel. Heres a person whos around the same age as me, and claims to be soo “Hip Hop” and down for the culture, etc. and doesnt event know who Frosty Freeze is??? I have a problem with that.
Me and Chicagorilla were just talking about how in Hip Hop everything it about whats new, and nobody takes time to do their History of the Culture. I told him if I asked some of these new people who are the same age as me to name the titles of two Public Enemy albums they probably wouldn’t even know.
So then I said maybe Im just overreacting… and I have to realize not everybody is into Hip Hop the way I am. So I logged on and proceeded to make my RIP Frosty Freeze post. Then I come across something really, really strange on SOHHthat says “Mr. Freeze of the Rock Steady Crew Dies”
AND SAY I WAIT A MINUTE, FROSTY FREEZE JUST PASSED AWAY, NOT MR. FREEZE, MR FREEZE AND FROSTY FREEZE ARE TWO DIFFERENT B BOYS!!!SO NOW IM REALLY PISSED, IM SAYING HOW IS A SITE SUCH AS SOHH THAT GETS ALL THESE HITS EVERY DAY AND SUPPOSE TO REPRESENT HIP HOP MEDIA, AND THEY CANT EVEN GET THEIR SHIT STRAIGHT!
HOW COULD YOU MAKE A POST ABOUT SOMEBODY DYING WHOS STILL ALIVE!!!!
SO AT THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE TO SEND A SPECIAL FUCK YOU TO SOHH AND TO WHO EVER MADE THAT POST! IT’S TIME FOR CATS TO START DOING THEIR HOMEWORK! AND AT THE SAME TIME TO START CALLING OUT ALL THESE FAKE ASS HIP HOP CATS!!!
AS ONE OF MY BIG BROTHERS H20 WOULD SAY “IF CATS DESERVE TO GET BOOED, DONT BE SCARED TO BOO THEY ASS!!!
“I could go on and on, But Im just gonna send my Condolences to the family of Frosty Freeze and to all the Rock Steady Crew Fam.
Frosty Freeze died yesterday at age 44. The man had crazy style when it came to dancing, I’ll never forgot watching his movements as a kid, as well as Crazy Legs, Ken Swift, Etc and being like “damn how’d they do that!” …. You will be missed, But not forgotten!
“Dont let your emotions cloud your vision. Be like the eagle who sees problems ahead and sores above the storm! Be of sound judgement. You made it this far, Dont Stop Now!!!
