Foot Fetish: Alife x Timberland: 40 Belows
Some of you probably have no idea what “40 Belows” are. Quick history lesson. Back in the early 90′s Timberland came out with a high boot, not sure what Timberland called em, but everybody used to call them the “Super Timbs” because they were taller than the regular construction joints everybody was wearing at the time. Of course thanks to good ole Hip Hop everything gets a new name, and cats in New York City started to referring to the boots as “40 Belows,” probably because they were the perfect thing to rock when it was 40 below zero in the winter time Lol. The first cats I really remember seeing rocking 40 Belows were Das Efx. Not saying they were the first, but they were the first I remember. Pretty much every rapper and street cat was wearing “40 Belows” in the early 90′s in NYC. You can probably watch almost any rap video from like 92 and see them on cats feet.
Not everybody could afford the “40 Belows” though, they were definitely a LOT more expensive than the regular tan joints. I never had a pair myself, I had the imitation 40 Belows. (Hey it’s all moms could afford at the time LOL).
And I say all that to say this… THE TIMBERLAND 40 BELOWS ARE BACK!!! Courtesy of the NYC Alife brand.
You can catch this starting this Friday November 6th, at Alife. I believe they retail for $250. You should get me a pair for letting you know they were coming back out.
Shout out to the homie Dice below rocking the “40 Belows.” I met this brotha back when he was probably like 19 over in the L.E.S. Since then I bump into him everytime I’m back in NYC. Good dude.
