JD Speaks on the Industry…

I spotted this at NO I.D.’s Myspace page Real words spoke by an industry vet. I’m not a fan of Jermaine Dupri’s music. I can’t think of one song in his catalog that I think is dope. If you know of one leave it in the comments for me. I did get his book though and read it in a day or two. I love to hear cats stories. But dig the commentary from NO I.D.

“I think people really like the industry, because it’s the best place to make a lame nobody become important…
It’s the only job that you can wake up, without any previous training or education, and say… I am a rapper…
And nobody can prove you wrong… Any other job… Think about it… You say you are a producer… People
say… “Where are your beats… Where is your equiptment….” If you say you are a lawyer…
“Where did you get your law degree?”, ” Where is your office?” Doctors… Electricians… Etc…
Would you call the plumber to come fix your sink and he says… “Well, I don’t have the tools, but I know what
I’m doing… If you hook me up, It’s gonna work just fine.” Rappers wake up one day and write some words on
a piece of paper and start believing the ‘s they hear about and say… “I’m gonna be rich!!!” Then they start their
“Movement”… And come up with their company name and now they are CEO’s… It’s because that’s the only way
some people can have dreams of being popular, getting girls, and making money WITHOUT WORKING HARD
and educating themselves in the trade they pick. They think it’s easy… Because we tell them its easy… We make
them envy us because we have what they want!! If they knew what we know… They would think again… But as
long as we look like our life is better than their life… They will create this fantasy vision of making millions and
being the biggest thing since slice bread! The weekly sales is the proof that their dreams of being a star won’t be
in vein because once we sell these records… It’s goin DOWN!!! Get the Bentley ready world!!! “I’m the next one!!!”
When the truth is… It’s a recession… and things are gettin worse for everyone every day… And it’s gonna be less
new people to make it because the cd sales $ is in people’s gas tank… And the labels are downsizing…
I might even say that Biggie’s song Juicy on the Master P’s success were the beginning of everyones crazy notion
that they too… Can be an overnight mogul and superstar…”

  • J.D. too me has always been getting it heavy on the R and B side. I think about all the stuff he did for Mariah Carey, Usher, Monica, Jagged Edge, Etc.

Hip Hop wise he put out a lot of wackness. Kriss Kross, Dem Franchise Boyz, J Kwon, Etc.

My favorite Hip Hop song he was associated with has to be:

“Listen to the B Side” Notorious BIG and Da Brat from like 94-95

  • NO I.D. makes a great point. I’ve been saying that for years. Theres no Validation. It’s like Lupe says “If you are, what YOU say you are”

  • That JD album Life in 1472…the one that dropped in like 97-98, that was pretty dope, to me. Barring the stuff they’ve done over the last couple years, those Jagged Edge albums are classics.

  • Still drawing a blank fam. Jagged Edge was a Jodeci knock off and Listen to the B Side was only received because of B.I.G. Would you mess with it if it was just Da Brat. I really don’t recall anything JD did that I can say now that was tight!!!!

  • Were talking about Production, not who was on the song. It could of been my lil sister on the song for all I care, a hot track is a hot track. … And I would never mention JE and Jodeci in the same sentence (other than now).

  • While I’m sitting here taking bout what JD produced he probably headed somewhere to Cash a Royalty Check! SMH

  • JD GETS IT N ON R&B PRODUCTION BUT SHIT KRISS KROSS MOVED RECORDS.

  • Hard Times In Da FUNK!

    Act like Funkdafied wasn’t piff!
