Microsoft Dumps Seinfeld For Pharrell
Hip-Hop star Pharrell joins a cast of celebrities in a new $300 million dollar advertising campaign being launched by technology behemoth, Microsoft.
On September 4, Microsoft debuted two spots featuring comedian and spokesman Jerry Seinfeld and company founder Bill Gates, as part of the biggest ad spend in the company’s history.
One advertisement features Seinfeld and Gates shoe shopping while engaging in idle chatter and the second features Seinfeld and Gates engaged in conversation at a blue collar family’s dinner table.
Despite being on the air for less than two weeks, the company is pulling the ads, in favor of a new campaign featuring Williams, Deepak Chopra and actress Eva Longoria.
A Microsoft spokesman said the ad campaign was “completely in accordance” with the company’s plans and denied that a lukewarm response from consumers was to blame for the change.
The “second phase” of Microsoft’s ad campaign featuring Pharrell have the tagline: “Windows. Life without walls.”
Microsoft has tapped Williams’ marketing power in the past, as the hit making rapper/producer helped launch the company’s game Halo 3 in the United Kingdom.
It is not clear if Seinfeld, who was paid $10 million dollars to endorse Microsoft, will be featured in the print version of the advertisements, which are scheduled to debut this Fall.
Here are the Ad Spots for those who haven’t seen them:

The second one was ok. It’s like a Seinfeld episode. Where’s the Pharell commercial?
not only are they boring….but they don’t do anything to position the Windows brand. they’re a total waste of money.
to make matters worse, watching them scramble to rebrand/reposition themselves (with new celeb endorsements with new taglines) may be the reason why so many users aren’t happy with vista. they probably rushed through completing their operating system in a half-assed way, just like their campaign.
I agree with the Seinfeld commercials being half-assed. Didnt really make too much sense. If you are trying to connect to a younger audience, why would you hire Jerry Seinfeld, whose fanbase is nowhere near “young and hip” to do a commercial for you. And if any of you watched Seinfeld, the tv show, you would notice dude always had a MAC in the background in his apartment. WOMP WOMP.
The newer commercial featuring pharrel and everyday people, I think will be much more successful. There’s no turning back for me though. Once i found out that you can run windows on a mac.. it was a wrap. You have the best of both worlds. Got me a Apple Laptop and havent looked back since.
Senor I need a mac book on my Vintage Imperial expense account!
I NEED A APPLE MAC 2 4 COLLEGE NEXT YEAR
