PAUSE!!!

Unless you were in New York City in the mid 90′s you probably missed the whole Ayyyoooo | Pause thing.

If you say something that could be construed as foul or homosexual you would say “pause” before or after it. Otherwise you could be hit the “Ayyyyyyyooooo!!!” LOL

You’ve probably heard the termanology from some of your favorite Hip Hop artists like Jay Z, Kweli, etc. and had no idea what they were talking about.

I was explaining this concept to someone the other day, when I realized that outside of New York City no one really is familiar with the slang. It’s something very silly, but very unique to nyc. It also can make for some VERY FUNNY moments! The whole “No Homo” thing came from “Pause,” but sounds very corny. Years later people still use the termanology, and every once and a while it trickles over to the mainstream for a hot sec.

Check out this video with Gus Johnson interviewing Spike Lee talking about Knicks basketball. This video is about a year old but a good example of when you use Pause. Gus should of hit Spike with the Ayyyyoooo for this one, but you’ll get the point.
