Atlanta Hip-Hop Mainstay Señor Kaos Tells the World Why “Girls Rock Too”!

(ATLANTA – September 16, 2008) With rap music being at the center of discussions about misogyny and derogatory male attitudes toward women, the single “Girls Rock Too” is a refreshing, much-needed message. The song, by Atlanta hip-hop mainstay Señor Kaos, promotes the opposite message that girls really do indeed rock too.

Señor Kaos was motivated by the Don Imus/Rutgers female basketball team incident in which Imus referred to the team as “nappy headed hoes,” and then essentially blamed his inexcusable choice of words on hip-hop. Disgusted and fed up, Kaos decided that it was a time for a hip-hop anthem women everywhere could be proud off.

“I decided to make a song that countered the negative stereotypes and imagery often perpetuated in the media and in hip-hop about women. The result is a song you can play in front of anybody. I can play this song in front of my mother, my grandmother and my younger cousins, and they can all be proud of it and relate to it.”

For every hip-hop song that degrades women, there are 30 more that don’t and never make it on the radio. Señor Kaos offers proof that there are young African American males making positive music. “I made this song with hopes to enlighten people of the female accomplishments that have been forgotten about,” said Kaos. He continues, “There are adults with children who refuse to let their kids listen to certain types of music because of the messages that are associated with it. At the end of the day, I would love to see the media get as excited about this song as they did about Nelly’s ‘Tip Drill’, but for the opposite reason. People love to focus on the negative side of hip-hop, but the positives are all around us. Therefore start blaring ‘Girls Rock Too’!”

Listen to “Girls Rock Too” or view the video online. The single is also receiving airplay on BBC radio in London, as well as Sirius and XM Satellite Radio. In addition to making positive hip-hop music, Señor Kaos runs a lifestyle marketing company, Vintage Imperial and a popular blog, The Kaos Effect.
