Events: Señor Kaos & Ultra Beast Invade Birmingham

This past Friday night (Jan 6th), me, 4-ize and the Bodega Brovas trooped out to Birmingham, Alabama for a live performance at the Bottle Tree Cafe. Shouts to the good folks at Lobotomix for holding us down and making sure things were straight. The Bottle Tree is a real nice venue that serves as restaurant int the day / venue at night. As far as the food goes the sweet potato french fries were jamming. As far as the venue goes the space is nice and the sound was crispy!

Me and 4-Ize performed a special Ultra Beast set which we rocked for about 40 minutes. I ran thru some of the records from “The Kaos Effect” and he ran through some joints from his latest project “Attack Of The Sea Monkeys,” before we linked later in the set to knock out collab records. Shouts to all the ladies who came out, and to the two young ladies who kept buying us shots of Jaegermeister like they were trying to get us pregnant. HA.

(Backstory): A couple songs into the set 4-Ize announced on the mic “I need somebody to bring me some Jaegermeister!” Like 3 minutes later we were being handed two shots, and I thought that was it. 5 minutes later the young ladies come back with more shots, 10 minutes go buy and more shots! HAHAHA! I told 4-ize these girls are either trying to kidnap us or get us pregnant… or both! Lol.

Haven’t seen any video footage surface from the show, but here’s a couple pics. Shouts to A.D and DJ Rahdu (BamaLoveSoul) for coming through and rocking with us.

Video: MF Doom Interviewed By Chairman Mao At Red Bull Music Academy (Madrid 2011)

I’m SUPER late with posting this video as it dropped at the beginning of November. At a hour a half in length, I watched the interview, then I think I fell asleep and never got a chance to go back and post this. DOOM sits down with Chairman Mao at the 2011 Red Bull Music Academy session in Madrid, Spain.

I worked as a rep for the Red Bull Music Academy this year, and was excited to hear an artist (Slide20XL) from my area was going to be attending the Academy this year for the first time in about 5 years. It’s truly an experience and you never know who you will see or bump into… Anyway enough typing, if you got some time to spare check this out.

Lecture: DOOM (Madrid 2011) from Red Bull Music Academy on Vimeo.

Check out some behind the scenes commentary from Chairman Mao.

Video: Mad Skillz Reveals His Plan To Release One Last LP & Retire Via WM40A

On Friday afternoon I was doing an interview out front of A3C when out the corner of my eye I spot non other than Mad Skillz. He was posted up for a few mins, as various people came by and shook his hand. By the time I finished my interview he was gone, so I didn’t get a chance to chop it up with the brotha. I found out later that he was in town for a Red Bull event at Gold Room with DJ Jazzy Jeff. I even hear Jeff was spotted walking around A3C, I never saw him.

The homie Phenom Blak from Wheres My 40 Acres caught up with Skillz where he talked about the future of Skillz, the next projects he’s releasing as well as a possible retirement from recording music.

Skillz drops several jewels in this interview one of my favorites: “It’s easy to get a record deal, it’s hard to get your album out on a tuesday.” He also speaks on the importance of building and maintaining relationships. Give it a look below.

Video: A3C Festival 2011 Short Film *IndieMusik Exclusive*

As of yesterday the smoke cleared and the 2011 A3C Festival was officially over. (*shreds tear*). It was a CRAZY 3 days of non stop action indeed. The festival kicked off with me and 4-Ize performing as Ultra Beast on the Creative Loafing Stage / Hip Hop DX showcase on Thursday night. We shared the stage along with Joe Scudda, Gods Illa, Homeboy Sandman, Kosha Dillz, Freeway, and Random Axe. Earlier that day I posted up at the Kevin Nottingham showcase where I caught Lyric Jones, The Regiment, Boog Brown, Bodega Brovas, El Da Sensei, One Be Lo, J-Live and Torae all tear it down!

On Friday I witnessed Jean Grae, Big Krit, Saigon, Aleon Craft, Dee 1, and the Jamla roster (Big Remo, Away Team, Rapsody, Laws, etc) get busy before heading to MJQ for the Face Off 6 year anniversary where DJ Rasta Root, Evil Dee, Maseo of De La Soul, and Green Lantern all destroyed the turntables.

Then… by Saturday my voice was escaping me. Me and 4-Ize recorded a record with The Beatminerz for a new project their working on, and afterwards I caught up with AJ (SalemPsalms) and Headkrack to knock out a joint for the Beatz & Lyrics To Go Mixtape. A got a chance to get a nap in, but by doing so I missed sets by Elzhi, M.O.P., Dead Prez, Termanology. Right after I performed at the Red Bull stage for the 5 Boro / Big Daddy Kane Function. Afterwards BDK came out and pretty much showed any other performer who rocked at A3C this weekend why he was and still is the king!

Shouts to Indie Musik, check out this short film they put together once again this year. If you look closely you’ll see some footage of me rocking a Gorilla suit on stage.

Well it’s about that time again. A3C is over and yeah it sucks, especially for those who missed this year but for the second year I present to you a short wrap up I shot of what the atmosphere looked like. Thanks to everyone who made this event awesome from A3C staff, the bloggers, and of course the artists. Special thanks to Malice, Fort Knox, Dee-1, Torae, Thurz, Fashawn, and Izaiah So Dope.

I can’t wait to check out ALL that footage that will be hitting you tube in the next few days / weeks. If you missed A3C this year, don’t play yourself next October, BE THERE! Shouts to everybody I bumped into or met for the first time. Shouts to iHeartDilla, Shalay, Sue, Torae, E Holla, Da Beatminerz, 9th Wonder, Dante Ross, Mr. Len, 4-Ize, Locsmif, Truth ATL, Blitz, Frank Black, Dres The Beatnik, J-Live, Laws, Khrysis, Big Remo, etc.

Mixtape Mondays: Quality Control & Unique Squared Present The Official SXSW Mixtape

Quality-Control-and-Unique-Squared-Mixtape.jpg

Shouts to the good people over at Unique Squared. Soul Wallace, AJ, Presyce, Tom and the rest of the gang.

During this year’s SXSW Festival leading pro audio company Unique Squared, in partnership with Quality Control Marketing, parked a massive tour bus on Austin’s streets to serve as a state of the art recording studio. Throughout the festivities some of hip-hop’s most notable emcees stopped by the Mobile Studio to record exclusive songs over all-original production. The result is The Official SXSW Mixtape, a 30 track collection that captures the energy and creativity of SXSW.

The Official SXSW Mixtape is presented by Unique Squared, Quality Control, 2DopeBoyz and DJBooth.net. Acclaimed industry engineer Fokis handled the mixing and engineering duties while tracks were blended and arranged by DJ Presyce (three time Scribble Jam DJ Battle Champion). Featured artists include Tanya Morgan, Skyzoo, Khaleel, Nick Javas, J-Live and more. Contributing producers include Seattle’s heavyweight beatsmith Jake One, Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan), Crazy DJ Bazarro (of the Beatminerz) in addition to noteworthy up-and-comers Apollo Brown, IMakeMadBeats, Dynamite Brothers, D.R.U.G.S. and female producer Kels of TN2 Productions.

To witness artists selecting beats, writing and recording in such a short period of time was extraordinary and a testament to Unique Squared’s ability to create a unique and creative environment. It’d be an understatement to say this was a Herculean task on everyone’s part, thank you to all the partners and artists that helped make it possible.

Foot Fetish: Air Jordan 7 Bordeaux Dropping April 16th, 2011

The Jordan Sneaker Gods are in FULL effect in 2011. Blessing us earlier this year with the Cement Jordan 3′s in the O.G. box. Now the Jordan 7 Bordeaux which hasn’t been seen since it was originally released in 1992 is making it’s way back into the marketplace on April 16th, 2011.

The shoe is called the “Bordeaux” because of it’s dark wine coloring that makes up a big part of the tongue, back and sole of the shoe. If knowledge serves me correctly the only time MJ ever wore these shoes in an actual game was the 1992 All Star Game. I also remember when Jordan was wearing the Bordeaux’s in the “Jam” video with Michael Jackson.

You might recognize the Bordeaux’s from the original Air Jordan commercial featuring Bugs Bunny that everyone now knows as “Hare Jordan”. This was before Space Jam but it’s probably what helped create the idea and concept for the movie. It’s definitely one of my favorite commercials from back in the day.

Check out Jordans feet in Michael Jackson’s Jam video.

These are a MUST have. Don’t sleep.
