Music from the vaults of Señor Kaos:

In 2010 I was invited into the studio to work on a verse for The Constellations single “We’re Here To Save The Day” from their debut album “Southern Gothic.” I was excited for the opportunity and had a great experience writing/recording the track.

However due to music industry politics Virgin Records decided they wanted Asher Roth on the record instead of me, and my version was scrapped and has never seen the light of day.

I’ve held on this song for over 2 years now, while it’s been collecting dust on a random flash drive. The song went on to be a success appearing on television and video games since its release. The time has come for me to liberate the music. I’m making it available as a free download for all my fans today.

Going through my vault, I realized I have a LOT of songs/verses that were recorded (some for me… some for others) that have never been heard. Many of them have interesting stories behind them as well. Maybe this music will find a home on a project one day… but as long as they find a home on your computer/iPod/MP3 Player, I’m just as happy.

Download: Jay Electronica – “Dear Moleskine” Produced By Just Blaze

It was just this past Saturday morning when the official un-official artwork for Jay Electronica’s long awaited LP: Act II: The Patents Of Nobility leaked on several Blogs across the net, starting the conversation on when or if Jay Elec’s project will ever see the light of day. It’s been about 3 years now since Jay Elect set the net as well as the Hip Hop world a buzz with “Exhibit C” as well as Exhibit A (Transformations), and a slew of other mixtape related tracks. One of the hardest things to do in Hip Hop these days is to get people to pay attention. Jay Electronica seems to have everybodies attention, and doesn’t seem too concerned about it either for the matter. While this new track “Dear Moleskine” produced by Just Blaze is sure to quiet the rumbling stomachs until summer hits. The age old question will not go away. When will the fans be treated to an album? some videos? merch? … I guess only time will tell.

Feels like I’ve heard this record a few years back, but just hearing it again for the first time. Weird.

And before you get Super excited. The track although it says 5 mins, only contains about 1 minute worth of rapping. HA. Classic Jay Electronica. Enjoy. And if you recognize the sample, De La Soul used it on the song “Sunshine” from the Stakes Is High LP. This track although short, is still worth checking out, give it a listen.

New Music: Rah Digga – The Ni@@ga In Me (Fat Trel & Tyler The Creator Diss)

Today Rah Digga released a track entitled “The Ni@@ga In Me” throwing some bars at Fat Trel and Tyler The Creator (Odd Future). Apparently the two have recently mentioned Digga in expense of their jokes, and now… they must pay.

Señor Kaos, Punchline, Lyric Jones, & Rah Digga in ATL Spring 2011.

When I first read the subject in my e-mail I was hoping this wasn’t an attempt to get people to pay attention to Rah Digga (as many disses in Hip Hop are nowadays). I was also thinking “who the hell is Fat Trel, and why is Rah Digga dissing them?” HA… However after listening to the track it doesn’t appear to be a phony diss (a la Common x Drake) out of left field. Digga is letting these two (as well as every other emcee for that matter) know just because she’s been silent, doesn’t mean she’s too buy to give you a lyrical ass wopping. And she definitely puts them in their place as a real emcee should.

Rah Digga says: “I didn’t make this record for press purposes or for hype cuz that’s not my thing. I got wind of various artists referencin me in a negative fashion. They poked fun at me I’m just pokin back. Its all sport to me. I wish em all the best, they just need to understand who is off limits. MC Lyte is off limits. Rah Digga is off limits. Respect those who kept hip hop raw so that we could still have a culture or get a first hand lesson in a lyrical ass whoopin. Love is love.” – Rah Digga

Big K.R.I.T. Releases 4Eva N A Day + “Boobie Miles” Video

At the top of last week Big K.R.I.T. released his new mixtape project “4Eva N A Day” as a free download. My guess… K.R.I.T. released this project to build up buzz to release his debut album “Live From The Underground” (via Def Jam) but hell this HERE could of been the official album. Salute to Big K.R.I.T. for making real music from the heart, and putting some soul back into southern Hip Hop, scratch that Hip Hop period. On this project he talks about being on a record label where they want you make hits, but he’d rather make a great album than have one hit single. As an ATL based emcee I will say it’s very hard when you’re making music that goes against the grain of what is popular in southern culture (keyboard beats, raps about selling drugs, strip clubs, etc). K.R.I.T. has found the perfect balance of 808′s, soul samples, and enough swing to cut through the clutter to be heard.

Recently I caught this Vashtie directed video for the song “Boobie Miles.” I love the message in this record and sport themed video which reminds me of something I would see in a Nike Ad spot. “You gotta play it to the end, the only difference between a loser and a winner, is a winner plays it to he… wins!” YES SIR!!!

Salute to Big K.R.I.T. for spreading a positive message, sharing his life experiences, and fighting the good fight. That’s the type of movement I can support.

Video: Young Lyxx & Skyzoo “You Ain’t Heard” Behind The Scenes

Back around Thanksgiving the homie Skyzoo was in ATL. He rocked a show at Club 529 but earlier that day I saw tweets about him being in the Stankonia Studios (Outkast/Atlanta) working with Young Lyxx on something… What is done in the studio dark… shall come to light (at least you hope it works out like that HA). Looks like the two teamed up on a track called “You Ain’t Heard.” Here’s some behind the footage of the two recording the track. Video work by Cam Kirk, although I’m not sure who produced this track.

It’s interesting to see both emcees type / spit rhymes off their mobile phones. I wonder how this has affected the sales of Mead Composition Notebooks as it seems the ways of the rhyme book are going extinct… Check it out.

Download: Lyric Jones “Loss On Repeat” Feat. Esperanza Spalding Prod. By Raydar Ellis.

New music from ATL based emcee/singer Lyric Jones. If the name rings a bell, Lyric Jones was featured on my “The Kaos Effect” LP on the song “New And Improved.” She has her own LP coming out next month, check it out…

Starting the new year off with a bang, Lyric Jones wastes no time in dropping the much anticipated third leak, “Loss On Repeat” featuring Grammy Award Winning jazz vocalist and bassist Esperanza Spalding. The song introduces a nice marriage of the two worlds of jazz and hip hop, gelling well to show a versatile style of both artists. Check out how Jones delivers her pensive lyrics, as Spalding sings an amazing hook that ties together their perspectives.

“Loss On Repeat” is produced by emcee, DJ, producer & Berklee College of Music educator Raydar Ellis and also is the final release leading to her debut album Jones St., due out February 7th, 2012.

Download: DJ Mick Boogie – Prelude To The Throne (Mixtape)

As everybody knows the highly anticipated collaboration album between Jay Z & Kanye West “Watch The Throne” drops tomorrow finally via iTunes before the physical copies hit Best Buy’s nationwide on Friday. After the listening party last monday at New York’s Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History the net was going crazy with rave reviews. Yeezy and Jay have pulled off the impossible by also not letting this album leak to the masses before it’s proper date. Something I can’t say I’ve seen in the past 10 years. I guess we’ll all have to wait till tomorrow to “Watch The Throne”

In the meantime… check out this mixtape DJ Mick Boogie put together “Prelude To The Throne”

Just for fun… a treat for the Kanye/Jay-Z fans. Some remixes/blends that we did previously, some rarities, some live audio, and of course, the hits.
