Mixtape Mondays: Lacer Head Wear x Smokin Shells “Evolved Originality”

Check out Señor Kaos featured on this Lacer Head Wear x Smoking Shells mixtape.

Lacer Head Wear and Smokin Shells release their first collaboration today, Evolved Originality. The mixtape enlists the hosting talents of Phife from A Tribe Called Quest and is mixed by Smokin Shells’ own Dj Rasta Root. Lacer ( is well known for its patented lace designs on their fitted and snap back caps. Smokin Shells ( makes high polish dj turntable headshells. The cd is more of a compilation album than a conventional mix tape. Dj Rasta Root picked 12 (plus one bonus) tracks from artists close to their respective camps. Jersey’s Verb Spielberg has repped Lacer since day one. 4-Ize and Señor Kaos are a mainstay in the Atlanta music scene and have been down with Phife and Roots for years. Will Dudat is a young up and comer whose verbal compositions remind us of Andre 3000′s intricate wordplay. Phife makes a cameo alongside T3 from Slum Village on Rapper Big Pooh’s They Say (Remix). Phife also gives listeners a change to hear three incredible, new unreleased tracks from his upcoming solo album, Cheryl’s Big Son : The Anomoly. Dj Rasta Root does what he does best and blends each track seemlessly from start to finish.

Lacer commissioned none other than Don Rimx, world renowned graffiti artist, to create the cover and back artwork.

Dot Got & Present: The 1988 Vs. 1994 Mixtape. Mixed by Dj Grandman and Dj Elmattic.

This project came about from debates here on Dotgotit ,with vets like Mic Geronimo standing by 94 and Von Pea and Snoop Dogg agreeing with me about 1988….we decided a mixtape from each perspective would be dope so the homie Guy Fawkes over at recruited DJ Elmattic to rep the 94 side and DJ Grandman held it down for 88. Here it is, & Present…
